The golden coordinates of the Global Coffee Capital
Buon Ma Thuot, Đak Lak is located at the intersection of National Highway 14 (connecting Pleiku City, Gia Lai, and Kon Tum), National Highway 26 (connecting the coastal city of Nha Trang – Khanh Hoa), and National Highway 27 (connecting the thousand-flower city of Da Lat – Lam Dong). This strategic position makes Buon Ma Thuot a central hub linking five Central Highlands provinces with the coastal regions of Central and South-Central Vietnam and the Southeast region. Moreover, Đak Lak shares a 73.4 km border with Cambodia – a province within the Cambodia–Laos–Vietnam Development Triangle – positioning it to become a key growth hub in the region. This provides Buon Ma Thuot with opportunities to expand economic connections and investment cooperation with Southeast Asian countries.

THE CENTRAL ARTERY OF THE BILLION-DOLLAR AGRICULTURAL CAPITAL
The natural terrain positions Dak Lak as a gateway connecting the Central Highlands with the rest of the country and the international market. To affirm the province’s role within the national landscape, transportation infrastructure in Dak Lak is strategically planned to ensure convenient and seamless connectivity. Several transportation projects have been approved by the Government and the Ministry of Transport, including: the construction of the Dak Lak – Khanh Hoa expressway; the upgrade and expansion of National Highways 27 and 29; the development of the Central Highlands railway passing through the province (Da Nang – Kon Tum – Dak Lak – Binh Phuoc and the Buon Ma Thuot – Tuy Hoa branch); upgrading Buon Ma Thuot Airport to an international airport; and investing in the Dak Rue border gate infrastructure. These initiatives form the foundation for Dak Lak to strengthen regional links and foster economic and cultural connections with provinces in the Central Highlands, North Central, Central Coastal, and Southeast regions, as well as with the Cambodia–Laos–Vietnam Development Triangle and major cities across the country. At the “Farmer Dialogue Conference” in September 2020, the Prime Minister noted that the Central Highlands has significant potential and advantages for developing an agricultural economy focused on commercial production and high-tech applications for crops such as coffee, pepper, cashew, rubber, cocoa, avocado, and durian. The total agricultural output of the Central Highlands reached VND 22.3 trillion in 2020. As a result, the Central Highlands is becoming a major agricultural production hub, playing a key role in the nation’s total export value of agricultural, forestry, and aquatic products, while progressively realizing the goal of establishing the region as a strategic economic zone.
